AviClear Acne Treatment

AviClear is the first and only FDA-cleared device for treating mild, moderate and severe acne. Treatment is safe and effective for all types of skin and skin tones. The recommended course of treatment is 3 total sessions scheduled 1 month apart. Results are seen slowly over the course of 6-12 months after treatment. Studies only go out to 24 months because it is a new device but patient in the studies were seeing complete clearance of acne still at 2 years post-treatment. The laser is using a specific wavelength that targets and suppresses the sebaceous glands. This gland produces sebum which combines with dead skin cells to clog pores and cause breakouts. AviClear stops sebum from producing which prevents acne from forming.

What to Expect

RECOVERY: There is little to no downtime. Sessions are 30 minutes so patients can come during their lunch breaks and be fine to return to work or school after treatments.
PAIN: There is a mild snapping sensation during treatment and slight redness or possible short acne flareups after treatment.
REPEAT: The recommended course of treatment is 3 total sessions scheduled 1 month apart.

Will I have a breakout after my treatments?

It is possible. Roughly half of patients may experience some post-inflammatory flare ups after each treatment for up to 2-3 weeks. A “purging period” is expected, and it is normal for the condition to worsen before it improves. You can take certain measures to help with the flare ups such as washing your face nightly and Hydrafacial 2 weeks post each session for a deeper clean. We recommend consulting with our aesthetician to formulate an appropriate skincare regimen.

How long does it take to see results?

Unfortunately, there are no acne treatments that will give immediate results that last. As with any form of treatment for acne, such as Accutane, results may take anywhere from 6-12 months for full improvement. You may see light improvement 1-2 months following the completion of all 3 sessions however the most dramatic changes will likely be seen 1 year post-treatment.

Recommend Benadryl and/or Claritin daily for 1 week prior to treatment to reduce chances of reactivity to treatment.
No sun exposure for 2 weeks prior
No retinol uses for 1 week prior.

Wear sunscreen daily
Avoid sun exposure for 3-7 days post treatment
Redness can last 1-2 days post treatment
Dryness and itching are possible and can last for 1-2 days post treatment
Avoid skin irritants such as retinols, benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid for 1 week post treatment
