Dermaplaning & Chemical Peels
Do you feel annoyed or self-conscious when your makeup cakes up and settles onto those tiny, fine hairs on your face? Believe it or not, that’s a pretty common complaint we hear! One question we at SKN get constantly is: “How do I get rid of this peach fuzz on my face? Does laser hair removal help?”
Unfortunately, laser hair removal doesn’t work on light blonde or fine hair—it has to be dark or have pigment to it, so it won’t work on that fine fuzz on your face. But don’t fret! The best way to get rid of that annoying peach fuzz is dermaplaning. Dermaplaning is a fast, painless treatment that uses a surgical blade to remove dead skin and fine hair from the epidermis.
That’s when we get a common follow-up question: “Wait—doesn’t shaving your face cause your hair to grow back thicker and darker?!” Nope! That peach fuzz is actually something called vellus hair, and when it’s shaved off the face, it stays the same—it doesn’t come back thicker or darker.
Because it gets rid of dead skin and vellus hair, dermaplaning also leaves your skin brighter, smoother, glowing, and more youthful. You’ll see an instant improvement in your skin’s texture and tone—and your face feels incredibly soft afterwards! Plus, a long-term effect of dermaplaning is increased cell turnover, which helps to improve the appearance of wrinkles and dark spots. It also allows your skincare to go in deeper, making it more effective, and your make-up to go on flawlessly.
At SKN, we love to combine dermaplaning with a chemical peel. Dermaplaning enhances the results of the peel by allowing the chemicals to penetrate deeper into the skin. Chemical peels are great for improving your skin tone and texture, correcting discolorations, smoothing fine lines, and giving you a brighter, more radiant appearance with minimal downtime. (And don’t worry. After the chemical peel you won’t look like Samantha from that episode of Sex and the City—no veil required!)
Dermaplaning can also be combined with several other facial services. Hydrafacial and Retinol Infusion are 2 of our favorites!
