FAQs
INJECTABLES
No! Patients report minimal pain from Botox and Dysport injections — if they feel any at all.
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this (and all beauty questions!), but we typically recommend starting treatment when you begin to notice fine lines when your face is at rest. You know the ones we’re talking about–the ones you can see in the mirror when your face is still; those pesky ones your makeup settles into. The good news is that these lines are easily smoothed out with a visit to SKN! Everyone’s different, so we’ll tailor an individual plan based on your needs and concerns.
A lip flip helps people achieve a fuller upper lip without the use of dermal fillers. (They only work on people whose lip curls under when smiling.) Here’s how it works: Botox injections are used to temporarily relax the muscles around your mouth. This stops the top lip from curling under when you smile. There is no downtime, but it might feel a little weird at first when you drink through a straw or whistle! Results take 2 weeks to set in and last for about 8 weeks.
Yes! Botox/Dysport not only relax the lines and wrinkles that you have, but it also prevents them from getting deeper. The more you move your muscles, the deeper those lines get.

Topical numbing cream will be applied prior to treatment for any pain.
You will be able to see the effect of filler immediately! You may experience mild swelling and bruising at the injection site. The bruising should fade after 2-5 days.
Depending on the patient, product used and the area injected, results can last between 6-18 months.
The filler will be a little ropey or hard for a few days after injection due to inflammation. After two weeks, the inflammation will have subsided and the filler will be fully settled resulting in a soft and natural feel!
When lip injections are done correctly by our experienced nurse injector, your lips will feel completely natural!
If you stop getting your lips filled, they won’t become saggy or wrinkly–they’ll just return to their original state.
Lip fillers add volume. More volume can be added over a period of time to build a bigger lip. Lip fillers can correct asymmetries, and results are instant and usually last up to 9 months. Downtime includes swelling and possible bruising.
Lip flips ony work on people whose top lip curls under when smiling. Lip flips use Botox injections, not a dermal filler. The goal of a lip flip is to relax the muscles around your mouth to stop the top lip from curling under when you smile. The results of a lip flip take about 2 weeks to set in and last about 8 weeks. Lip flips can’t correct asymmetries or add volume to your lips. There is no downtime, you it can feel a little weird at first when whistling or drinking through straws.

Sculptra Aesthetic is used to correct overall volume loss such as shallow to deep wrinkles and folds on the face. Sculptra can also be used in other areas of the body to restore volume–hands, chest, buttocks, etc.
On average, a series of three treatment sessions over the course of a few months may be needed. The number of injections at each session will vary, depending on the degree of correction needed and the treatment plan determined by you and your specialist.
Sculptra Aesthetic is designed to give you noticeable results that emerge gradually and can last 2 years or more. Don’t be disappointed if you don’t see immediate results. A few days after treatment, you may look as you did before treatment. This is normal and temporary. The Sculptra Aesthetic delivers its full effects with an average of three treatment sessions over the course of a few months. Because results happen gradually, you’ll see subtle, yet noticeable, results.
PDO THREADS
Any person who is experiencing volume loss, sagging skin in the face/neck area, or overall collagen depletion is considered a good candidate for the procedure!
Thread lifts are an FDA-approved procedure that gives patients the closest thing to a facelift without having to go under a knife and is low risk. There are minimal risks of scarring, severe bruising, bleeding or other complications.
LASER TREATMENTS
RF or radio-frequency microneedling uses electrical energy that is converted to thermal energy when contact with the skin is made. This increased temperature in the skin stimulates fibroblast activity resulting in the natural production of hyaluronic acid leading to tightening and rejuvenation of the skin.
Microneedling is a procedure that uses small needles to break the skin. This procedure combined with the heat from the radio-frequency pulses is a treatment designed for clients that want to see texture improvements in their skin such as fine lines and wrinkles or more commonly acne treatment and scarring.
You may experience redness and mild swelling for 3 to 5 days after your treatment. Minor scabbing can develop on the treatment areas which will naturally heal. Your overall skin texture may feel dry and like sandpaper, but these are normal side effects that will subside after 4-7 days of treatment.
Avoid sun exposure and all retinol products for two weeks after your treatment.
Avoid picking or scratching the treatment area.
Sleep elevated to avoid additional swelling.
Use of a gentle serum or hyaluronic acid is recommended to enhance the results and quicken healing time.
Use sunscreen daily.
Some effects from treatment can be seen a few days after treatment. Results will depend on the severity of the area being treated. The tightened and final results will be seen gradually over 6-9 months which is the time it takes for each individual’s body to produce collagen naturally and for the skin to rebuild after injury.
Yes, it can be slightly uncomfortable. The sensation during treatment is said to feel like a warm rubber band snap against the skin followed by residual heat in the treated area. A topical numbing cream is applied prior to treatment to help minimize pain.
Treatments depend on the skin type, type of lesion, and other individual factors. Generally, pigmentation and vascular lesions require 4-6 treatments about 3-5 weeks apart. After the courses of treatment are completed many conditions require maintenance treatments annually.
IPL or intense light is a minimally invasive procedure that uses light passed through various filters to selectively target skin irregularities.
The most common conditions treated with IPL are sunspots & damage, blemishes & freckles, and multiple vascular lesions such as telangiectasias, broken capillaries & rosacea.
After each treatment, you will have some swelling for a few hours followed by 1-2 days of redness.

ResurfX is a non-ablative treatment that works by heating up the targeted area to stimulate fibroblast activation. Fibroblasts synthesize collagen which is responsible for the structure and firmness of the skin.
This makes ResurfX an excellent treatment for acne scarring, surgical scars, fine lines & wrinkles, stretch marks, and cellulite.
Discomfort after treatment is genreally mild. It will feel similar to a bad sunburn. There will be redness immediately after treatment that can last up to 5 days. Swelling the day after treatment is also fairly common and can last up to 2 days.
“Bronzing” will follow in the 2 weeks post-treatment. This is caused by melanin in the top layers of skin being sloughed off. Most patients state if feels similar to dry flaking (like sandpaper) in the 10 days post-treatment.

Shaving and waxing are either too tedious or painful methods of hair removal. Our Lumenis lasers offer the additional comfort of the dual cooling system that uses cryo air which “numbs” the treated area before the laser fires.
After the course of treatments, you can expect the treated area to remain smooth without any razor bumps or irritated skin.
Almost anyone! Both men and women are eligible for laser hair removal. Most women choose to treat areas such as legs, underarms, and bikini lines while men will commonly choose to treat hair on their back and neck.
When lasers for hair removal were first introduced the only candidates were patients with light skin and dark hair. However, with newer technologies, we can now safely treat patients with dark skin, and depending on the amount of pigment in the hair, patients with lighter hair colors are also candidates.
The hair growth cycle is what determines how many treatments will be required. Not enough time between sessions will be ineffective because the hair growth cycle takes time. The time for regrowth of remaining hair will get longer after multiple sessions.
Generally, most clients will need at least 4-6 treatments around 3-6 weeks apart to completely get rid of the hair. How long and how many treatments varies on the area being treated.

SKIN RESURFACING
All skin types and tones are great candidates for SkinPen!
Topical numbing cream is applied 30 minutes prior to the procedure which makes the procedure comfortable.
The number of SkinPen treatments are based upon your individual goals and the health of your skin. Typically 3-6 treatments are needed.
While multiple sessions are recommended to achieve optimal micro-needling results, you may see noticeable improvements just one week following the procedure. Your skin will gradually improve as your body’s collagen is built up. Most patients receive a series of 3 SkinPen procedures spaced about four weeks apart.
CHEMICAL PEELS
After one treatment overall skin tone and complexion will appear smooth, glowing, and fresh. Depending on skin conditions, multiple treatments may be necessary to achieve desired results.
A series of 3-4 treatments applied once every 4 weeks will allow for optimal results for more skin conditions such as melasma and active acne.
Yes! You will begin peeling around 48 hours after peel application. This will continue until the 7th or 8th day from the date of your appointment.
Chemical peels can do a lot for your skin!
- Reduce or eliminate hyperpigmentation, sun damage, and Melasma
- Control acne and reduce acne scars
- Help erase fine lines and wrinkles
- Reduce enlarged pores
- Build collagen and elastin for a healthier, firmer complexion
- Improve the overall tone, texture, and clarity of the skin
Not at all, although you will feel a slight tingling sensation. With a fan in hand, it’s over in minutes and the tingling subsides. The peel solution has an ingredient in it that numbs the skin with each pass.
No! You can trim the skin, but you cannot remove it yourself. If you do, you will likely cause discoloration.
Because you will leave the office with the peel still on your skin, you should not wear makeup for at least 6 hours post peel. The peel self neutralizes, but after oxidizing, it has an orangey tint. You should make plans to go home immediately after to avoid sunlight (and crazy looks). Once you have removed the peel it is easy to wear makeup for about 48 hours until the peeling begins!
It really depends on what we are targeting and what your end goal is. Your provider will work with you to determine the right peel for you and a treatment plan. We might suggest a series of a few chemical peels in a row or we might also suggest that you put it in rotation with another treatment like SkinPen.
